Genetic testing results
PGT-A (preimplantation genetic testing) is a form of genetic testing. Though PGT-A does not repair embryos, it can identify embryos that have developed to the blastocyst stage and appear normal, but are not suitable for transfer because of underlying genetic abnormalities.
Care Fertility offers PGT-A to patients and has been closely looking at the results for PGT-A.
From 2020 to 2021 the clinical pregnancy rate of the biopsied embryos when transferred was 67.6% and live birth rate was 54.1%.
This is in alignment with the best units globally and reflects the care taken in follicular stimulation, caring for the eggs, ensuring good fertilisation rates, meticulous culture conditions, well conducted embryo biopsies and analysis and finally successful freezing and thawing. PGT-A involves many steps, which particularly benefits women over 38 years of age when genetic abnormalities in the eggs become much more common.
For women over 45 all PGT-A tests showed genetic abnormalities which are not compatible with an ongoing pregnancy. Women over 45 are better off considering the use of donated eggs or donated embryos.
