A couple is traditionally diagnosed with infertility when they have been unable to conceive a pregnancy after 12 months of unprotected intercourse. This definition may however change if a woman is aged over 35 or if a male is more than five years older than his partner of 35 years or knows that he has a low or absent sperm count.
