Celebrating Hope, Science and Parenthood

Every year on 25 July, World IVF Day commemorates one of the most significant breakthroughs in reproductive medicine: the birth of Louise Joy Brown, the world's first baby conceived through IVF.

Born in England on 25 July 1978, Louise's arrival marked the beginning of a new era in fertility treatment. The pioneering work of Dr Robert Edwards, Dr Patrick Steptoe and embryologist Jean Purdy offered hope to people facing infertility at a time when few treatment options existed. What was once considered experimental has since helped millions of people around the world become parents.

Today, World IVF Day is about much more than celebrating a scientific achievement. It is an opportunity to recognise the emotional journey many individuals and couples face when trying to conceive. Fertility challenges affect millions of people worldwide and IVF has provided a pathway to parenthood for those who may otherwise never have had the opportunity to have a child.

The day also highlights the remarkable advances in reproductive medicine over the past four decades. From improved laboratory techniques and embryo freezing technologies to genetic testing and fertility preservation, IVF continues to evolve and improve outcomes for patients worldwide.

World IVF Day is a celebration of resilience, hope, determination, strength and the health professionals who support them through every step of their fertility journey.
