A recent reported case of an embryo being transferred to the wrong patient in a fertility clinic not associated with Care Fertility has caused alarm and concern amongst patients accessing IVF treatment.

Care Fertility has always been committed to robust processes to prevent this from happening, these include:

Two (2) individuals checking three (3) identifiers whenever a gamete (sperm or egg), or embryo is moved. This is recorded as a sign out and if a Scientist is working alone (occasionally on a Saturday morning or a public holiday) they are required to photograph the identifiers for check by another person as soon as possible.

In addition to this, at the time of your embryo transfer you will be shown the straw in which the embryo was stored and be asked to confirm your identifiers - both on the straw and on the dish from which the embryo is taken for transfer.
